Piteå: Studio Acusticum, Snickargatan 22 16:00

The Young Nordic music festival puts on a concert of electroacoustic music featuring fixed media and live electronics.

Aleksandra Slyz’ Synesthesia combines projection, live electronics, dance and motion controllers. The dancer’s bodies become instruments, and arm position, movement speed, rotation and muscle tension become sound.

the human a subject is is an audiovisual composition based Kobo Abe’s Woman in the Dunes, acting as an experiment in an upcoming larger-scale intermedial work by composer Olga Szymula.

Lara Poe’s La Rivière et la forêt, in turn, has its roots in the composer’s time in the French village of Aulus-les-Bains, where the Garbet river is a prominent feature in the village’s soundscape. Nature sounds from the river’s ecosystem are combined with sounds from the village itself, creating a sounding portrait of the Occitan commune.

First held in 1946, UNM is one of the oldest festivals for new music in the North. Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland act as alternating hosts. Separate juries in each country selects the young composers. Among the music of these emerging talents the program includes mentoring guest composers Mark Andre, Veli-Matti Puumala, Martin Q Larsson, Antti Auvinen and Matthew Whittall.

The current board chairpersons are composers Dante Thelestam and Lauri Supponen.

This year's composer representatives from Finland are:

Tytti Arola, Thinking sounds

Tuomas Kettunen, fall, into the ocean

Leo Lehtinen, Buddies

Teemu Mastovaara, Mit inniger Empfindung

OON: Johanna Tarkkanen ja Sarah Palu, Metsänkellot

Lara Poe, La Rivière et la forêt

Selected songs are combined with film excerpts associated with Cage and his music for an unforgettable Full Tilt/Cinematics evening.

Musiikkitalo Helsinki – 19:00

km2-duo's concert offers a look into the freshest Finnish and international compositional approaches.  The convergence point of the soundworlds of the accordion and percussion instruments functions provides a consistent anchoring point for this concert, and each composer's aesthetic contributes in various ways to the overall equation.  The five new pieces composed for the duo over 2018-2019 include complexity, music inspired by silence, and flashes of tango and rock music.

km2-duon konsertti on katsaus tuoreimpaan suomalaiseen ja kansainväliseen säveltaiteeseen. Harmonikan ja lyömäsoitinten mittavien äänimaailmoiden yhdistymiskohta toimii vakiona, ja jokaisen säveltäjän tyylilliset ominaispiirteet antavat yhtälölle erilaisen lopputuleman. Konsertin viisi vuonna 2018–19 duolle sävellettyä teosta sisältävät rinta rinnan kompleksismiä, hiljaisuuden inspiroimaa musiikkia sekä viittauksia muun muassa tangoon ja rockmusiikkiin.
